How to Setup a Community on Challonge.com

Creating a Challonge Community for your organization

Hello! If you're looking for the steps to create a Challonge Community, you've come to the right place!

Communities allow organizations and hosts to create a centralized communication and tournament/competition system. Think of it as your website within the Challonge ecosystem.

You'll need to be signed into your verified Challonge account. If you don't have an account, you can create one for free here: https://challonge.com/users/new?continue=/
If you have a new account, you must verify your account before creating a Challonge Community. To do so, click your username on the top right of the screen > Click 'Settings' > Click 'Send a New Link' to complete verification.'

To start, head over to https://challonge.com/communities/about and click 'Start A New Community For Free'.

Customize Your Community

Name - what is your community called?
Customize your Challonge URL for searchability and personalization. For instance, if your Community's name is 'The Best Store Ever', your custom URL would look like the beststoreever.challonge.com.
Who's your community for? (You can select all of these if you'd like!)

Don’t forget to add in your location so that current and potential members can check if the community they’re joining/joined is within their own hometowns, region, and country.

Lastly, before hitting that submit button - don’t forget to add all your active social media accounts! This is a great way to further connect with new and future community members!

If you receive an error saying "you're not allowed to do this, you must verify your account before creating a Challonge Community. To do so, click your username on the top right of the screen > Click 'Settings' > Click 'Send a New Link' to complete verification.'

Add a community profile & banner by clicking the two camera icons

Provide additional information about your community!

Description - what does this community do? Why should participants follow you?
Social Media - if you didn't add any in step 4, no worries! You can do so here as well.
Collaborators - This is how you add other admins/hosts/moderators to your community. There's two types of collaborators:

Admin Collaborators - have the exact same permissions as you, the owner (except they cannot delete the community), so choose carefully who gets this level of access.
Manager Role - Managers are able to a) create tournaments b) post announcements within a tournament (manager's cannot post community-wide announcements). The manager role within a community exists only for the tournament aspect, they don't have the same level of community access. Managers cannot: change the logo or banner, post community announcements, delete the community, change the community description etc.

Games - Click 'edit' to show what games your community hosts. These games will populate on your community page and allow greater discoverability when users search for a tournament,

Understanding Community Tabs

Overview - the default page when you go to a community. It shows a) recent community announcements b) upcoming tournaments and more!
People - Who follows and manages your community.
Announcements - A record of all your community announcements. You could also post a new community-wide announcement from this tab. This sends an email to each player that follows your community.
Tournaments - as you begin to host tournaments, each and every one will populate here. From upcoming, in-progress and even completed tournaments.
Events - Events are best used for multi-day, well events! You can learn more about them here: https://kb.challonge.com/en/category/events-19qmfr5/
Ratings - Ratings allow you to track how well players are doing within your community. For Dice Throne, ratings are going to be super important. You can learn more about ratings here: https://kb.challonge.com/en/article/how-to-create-a-challonge-community-rating-xjihi4/
Templates - You can create community templates that are able to be used by community admins or managers. This is the same process as creating a Challonge Tournament, however when you go to create a new tournament, you can just do so via this tab. You can learn about templates here: https://kb.challonge.com/en/article/creating-using-tournament-templates-1bh8spw/
Settings - change various information about your community, add or remove admins/managers etc.
