How to Seed by Rating
Seed by Rating
Seeding a tournament via a community rating is an excellent tool for PRO Communities looking to expedite the tournament seeding process. In most systems, players/teams that are ranked higher on a given leaderboard receive a higher seeding and therefore a more favorable round 1 matchup (or byes).
- You must have a PRO Community
- You must have a community rating for the game you're hosting
- Create a Tournament
You'll need to create a Tournament on Challonge and select the leaderboard(s) affected by your tournament's results.
- As players begin to register for your tournament, you'll notice that on the participants tab there's a rating associated with their name.
The default seeding on Challonge is based on when a player registers. In our example above, 'Jack' was the first player to register for this tournament and currently holds the #1 seed.
Above, you can see that we have 8 returning players and 4 new players. With ELO ratings, typically, a player starts with an '1000' rating. From match wins / losses, the rating goes up and down. Players who haven't participated in a ranked tournament within your community will start with whatever the default rating is for your leaderboard. In our case, 1000 is the starting ELO.
- How to set your tournament to seed by rating.
At the top of the participants page, there's 3 options. Naturally, you'll want to select Seed By Rating.
You'll be prompted to confirm your choice, click Ok.
Once the action has been preformed, you'll get a confirmation message letting you know that the bracket has been successfully seeded by players' ratings. The table will also be sorted by rating from highest to lowest.
