# Creating & Using Tournament Templates

# How to create tournament templates on Challonge.com

If you host a consistent game or activity on Challonge and are looking to cutdown on setup time, tournament templates can help!

| Option 1) Create a template from an existing tournament  

**Step 1:** Go to the bracket page of the tournament you wish to copy
**Step 2:** Next to the title the tournament, you'll see a 'link' icon. Click that then > _click 'Create template from this tournament'_
_Note: You don't need to own the tournament to copy it as your template. If you admire a particular format, you can go to the bracket page and create a template from it as well. _

| Option 2) Create a template from scratch

Maybe you're starting a new tournament series and don't have a previous tournament to reference. This method will be better suited to you. 

**Step 1:** First, you'll need to be logged into Challonge.com
**Step 2:**  _Click your username_ on the top right of the screen. When the dropdown menu appears, _click Settings_
**Step 3:** On the left menu in the sidebar, _click 'Tournament Templates"_

After clicking into this menu, you'll see a button to "Create a Template". Click that to get started. Once you've gone through each setting and saved the template, they will populate here just as mine has in the image above.

**Custom fields** allow you to create registration questions that participants must answer and submit prior to registering for your tournament. More often that not, the questions you ask participants are the same from tournament to tournament. To save time, you can make it so that your _custom registration questions are automatically deployed when your template is used._ 

**Step 1:** Go to an existing template, click "edit". Or, if you're creating a new template, scroll all the way to the bottom. 
**Step 2:** You'll see there's a toggle switch on the left to 'Enable Custom Fields". Click it to flip the switch. 
**Step 3:** Input your custom registration questions. 
_Note: You can require a question to be answered by clicking the toggle switch 'required to be answered'._

# How to use or edit tournament templates on Challonge.com

Now that you've created a template, you'll probably want to use it!

**Step 1:** First, you'll need to be logged into Challonge.com
**Step 2:**  _Click your username_ on the top right of the screen. When the dropdown menu appears, _click Settings_
**Step 3:** On the left menu in the sidebar, _click 'Tournament Templates"_
**Step 4:** You'll see your saved templates listed here, _click the orange button marked "use"_ in the associated row to publish this template. 
**Step 5:** If you've created a tournament on Challonge.com before, this will look familiar because it brings your template into our tournament creation tool. Now's the time to adjust settings such as date/time. 
**Step 6:** Once you're satisfied with your tournament's settings, _click "Save and Continue"_. Now you're tournament is properly showing on Challonge.com and ready for participants to start registering!
